While most dental work stems from injuries, age or wear and tear, they are also as prominent in children as they are adults. Pedodontics, or pediatric dentistry – the branch of dentistry dealing with the care and treatment of children’s teeth – emphasises basic oral hygiene and preventative measures, which include instruction in proper diet, the use of fluoride and the importance of regular brushing and flossing.

 

Those trained in treating children’s teeth are both specialised dentists and also have the social skills and expertise to handle children, as dentist visits are notoriously anxiety-filled for them.
